$5 Million Cerebral Palsy Settlement

About three years ago a couple from New Hampshire sued the OB/GYN that delivered their son. The couple's son had cerebral palsy caused during birth due to negligence on the part of the doctors. The cerebral palsy left the little boy unable to eat, walk, or talk without assistance.

The parents believe that had their doctor performed a c-section sooner, the boy would not have suffered from cerebral plasy. The hospital in Massachusetts where the couple's son was born extended their sympathy to the boy and his family and noted that the physician no longer practiced at their hospital. The physician chose to settle out of court rather than go through a trial. The cerebral palsy settlement is believed to be one of the largest in the state's history.

$4 Million Cerebral Palsy Verdict

In Maryland, a jury awarded a boy and his family $4 million after they successfully proved negligence on the part of an ER doctor and the doctor who delivered the child. The case proved that the two doctors failed to properly monitor the child's heartbeat before he was delivered, and failed to send the mother to labor and delivery despite the fact that concerns were expressed about the situation. The jury award a total of $4 million, of which $300,000 was for pain and suffering.
