Personal Injury Settlements
Obtaining personal injury damages involves a complex legal battle to determine the merits of the plaintiff’s case. While not all personal injury victims obtain a settlement, there are many that do. The following settlements are just a few examples of the results that are possible.

Over $500,000 has been paid in civil settlements following the November 2007 death of Donda West, Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West’s mother. West died at age 58 after receiving cosmetic surgery by plastic surgeon Jan Adams. Adams has faced several medical malpractice lawsuits.
Auto Accident Settlement – $5 Million
In one of the largest single-victim personal injury settlements under the Federal Tort Claims Act, the U.S. government has agreed to pay $5 million in damages to a woman who suffered severe burns and partial amputation of her hand in an auto accident involving a U.S. Postal truck.
Mesothelioma Settlement – $4.6 Million
Over $4.6 million in damages were awarded in a Washington State mesothelioma (asbestos exposure) lawsuit resolved in June 2007. The plaintiff, a 56-year-old retired union insulator, had been exposed to asbestos during his career and was diagnosed with malignant pleural mesothelioma in 2006.
Slip-and-Fall Verdict - $12.2 Million
In one of the highest slip-and-fall verdicts in the state of Virginia, over $12.2 million in damages have been awarded to a woman injured in a slip-and-fall accident at a local convenience store. The store’s owners were charged with negligence.
